Chicago architecture:

• I've been a volunteer docent with the Chicago Architecture Foundation since 1984 (less a few seasons missed while living overseas). In 2010 I added:
• Frank Lloyd Wright Neighborhoods by Bus - Three separate walks in Oak Park and River Forest, bus rides in between.
  
• Elevated Architecture: Chicago's Loop by Train - This was new in 2010. Commentary from 4 "L" stations and 4 "L" trains, using wireless audio.
• My other ours include:
• Lights, Camera, Architecture! - Loop-area locations seen in the movies (tour director since 2005)
• Louis Sullivan: Lost & Found - Started in 2006, for Sullivan's 150th birthday, and now a permanent tour.
• Lake Forest Cemetery - offered in the spring and now also a "fall color" date in October
• Merchandise Mart - 45-minute "lunchtime tour"
• Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park - Wright's first 20 years as a working architect
• Historic Skyscrapers - wireless audio communications from docent to group

Gurnee and Warren Township:

• I'm continuing as a director of the Warren Township Historical Society and maintain its web page.
• Our photo book, "Gurnee and Warren Township," available since March 2006. I performed all the image digitalization for the book.  In the scanning, sometimes I was able to find some long-unnoticed details. For example, this postcard, under magnification, reveals this scene that became our book's cover photo. The book is available at area bookstores and online as well as from the publisher.

• February-March 2011: Shelley and I cruise from Barcelona to the Canary Islands (Lanzarote and Gran Canaria), Madeira and Málaga/Frigiliana.
  
• October 2010: A work week in Germany; had a beautiful autumn Saturday off in Heidelberg.
  
• June 2010: A couple of weeks for work near Eindhoven, with a weekend in between spent in Amsterdam (Facebook album); you can see the World Cup mania that overtook the Netherlands that month.
  
• April-May 2010: Shelley and I celebrated our 25th anniversary on a cruise from Barcelona to Monaco, Florence, Rome, Naples and Mallorca.
  
• The girls and I took our 2009 spring break in the Netherlands and Belgium:
• We went straight to the Keukenhof gardens our first day
• Windmills, a museum and an old-time village at Zaanse Schans
• A couple of days in Amsterdam
• We visited our old haunts in and near Eindhoven
• A day trip to Antwerp
  
• Alaska, May 2008: Shelley participated in "An Artistic and Creative Journey in Alaska " and I came along for the ride (and the sightseeing, relaxation, etc.). Too many pictures for one album!
• First stop: Juneau, and the Mendenhall Glacier
• Then our northernmost reach: Skagway, the Yukon, and White Pass
• Sailing through Glacier Bay National Park
• A stop at Ketchikan and nearby Saxman
• Passing whales and seals on the way to Victoria
• I had a two-week work trip to Mumbai, India, in April 2008.

Daughter Madeline completed her graduate studies in Early Childhood Special Education at Elmhurst College in May, 2011. She now works as the Head Start Lead Teacher at Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Daughter Emily graduated from Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, in Aurora, in June 2011. This fall she begins her studies at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.
